knit·ting
1. the act of forming a fabric by looping a continuous yarn.
Simple yet complex.
Knitting has been around for centuries. Most historians track it back to the 1300-1400’s. That’s over 700 years! With that much history, there is going to be a lot of information on the subject.
Many of us want to learn how to knit or wonder why one should knit, but don’t know where to begin. The amount of information available seems endless and a bit overwhelming.
There are a lot of questions when it comes to knitting:
Why knit?
You can knit clothes; everything from socks to sweaters to scarves to hats. You can knit a Halloween costume. You can knit a oven mitt. Pretty much anything made of fabric, you can knit. Blankets, shirts, slippers, it goes on and on.
I’ve knitted gifts for friends. A gift of a knitted scarf or hat will go a long way to show you care.
How do you knit?

There are so many different types of knitting, it’s hard to know where to begin. You must first decide what you want to knit, then you must decide on the fabric, the type of stitch, the type of needle. There’s a lot that goes into figuring out how to knit. But once you start digging in, you will realize it doesn’t take long to get a grasp of the terminology and what’s involved.
What type of Fabric should you use for knitting?
Some things to take into thought are the texture and color. Depending on what you are knitting you may use different types of yarn.
Circular or Flat knitting?
What type of stitches should you use?
Do you want the final garment to have more of a bumpy feel or smooth?
